The island at the end of the world
It is the westernmost and southernmost island of the Canary archipelago, the youngest, the smallest and the least touristy, the most uncontaminated, the last frontier of Europe.
Until the discovery of America it was considered the western end of the world, “the end of the known world”. Before referring to Greenwich, conventionally the Meridiano Zero passed through here.
The atmosphere that reigns in El Hierro is actually mystical, as if the island lived immersed in a splendid enchantment all its own, and the serenity that surrounds its inhabitants is contagious.
From the pier of PUNTAGRANDE where there is the smallest hotel in the world, where the volcanic rock meets the impetuous Atlantic, far from the hustle and bustle of conventional tourism, time stops and the visitor really feels he has reached the border of that normally known world.
Facing the stormy ocean, you will feel that a special energy is released, felt on the skin and in the mind.
Biosphere Reserve
Panoramas of wild beauty that take your breath away, a real paradise for nature lovers.
It is called the island of a thousand volcanoes and has eight different microclimates; the multiplicity of its ecosystems and the temperate climate gave life to the most spectacular landscapes in all of Spain.
The entire island has been declared by the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and you will just have a look around, the landscape of lava, the amazing vegetation, the Sabinar trees shaped by the sole force of the wind, the strange phenomenon of horizontal rain, to understand the preciousness and the rarity of this territory.
The sky at Puntagrande
A star-studded sky does not exist anywhere else in the world. It ‘a sky that is not just above the head, but embraces you completely. The stars seem closer, alive, no longer distant lights that shine by the physical laws of the universe, but presences that flood you with living beauty. Just as alive as a field of flowers that inebriate you with their perfume, so is the sky of El Hierro: you get drunk with splendor and open the infinite before your eyes.
Looking at the sky on the terrace of the small Hotel Puntagrande is the experience closest to infinity that you can live, a total harmony with nature that also opens the heart. Here’s what happens under the sky of El Hierro: the eyes shine, the mind faces infinity and the heart opens to the beauty of the universe.
The sustainable island
In El Hierro, nature reigns supreme, and the island lives in total harmony with it.
It is the first 100% sustainable island in the world: in this territory of 10,000 inhabitants, electricity production is guaranteed by a system of hydroelectric and wind power plants.
