One of the great assets of El Hierro is being a pure and unpolluted environment,
with its true and clean wildernesses.
We deeply love the unique and spectacular location of our little hotel and we are totally committed to the conservation and protection of the natural surroundings and its historical resources.

– Puntagrande Hotel is an integral part of the landscape in which it is immersed and it is designed respecting cultural and environmental principles, starting from its construction: the walls are made of lava stones, which is the typical natural element of El Hierro, the interior is furnished with local stones and woods, also repurposing traditional seafaring objects.

– The hotel is a climate responsive building, thanks to its bioclimatic construction and its location: no heating and air conditioning systems are needed in the hotel, the thick walls from lava stones provide insulation in winter, and keep the rooms cool in summer.

The special shape of building and its orientation matter too, so that the wind moves in particular ways.

It’a s naturally green building, with a perfect optimization of materias, construction techniques and climate consideration.

As an eco-friendly hotel, we continually seek ways to protect natural resources, to minimise consumption of raw materials, energy and emissions, and we take special care of the waste treatment so that the environmental impact is as low as possible.
In 2020 we have cut out all single-use plastic objects becoming a plastic-free hotel! Moreover we have limited to the minimum the use of paper thanks to important ecological choices in the hotel as well as in the restaurant.
All our staff is involved and encouraged to be proactive in respecting and improving our environmental policies.
In addition, we are committed to the local community development by choosing locally sourced products and services.

Eco-friendly choices at the Hotel Puntagrande include:

  • NO PLASTIC in the hotel, use of recyclable and natural, biodegradable materials
  • organic / compostable toiletries: toiletries (soap, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, body cream etc.) are organic products and their containers/packaging are biodegradable, as well as the toothbrush and the shower cap;
  • minimising and recycling waste;
  • using low-consumption illumination;
  • energy saving systems, also exploiting the bioclimatic construction advantages of the building (naturally warm in winter and cool in summer);
  • we only use eco friendly cleaning products;
  • Japanese-style toilet facilities (toilet and bidet), which reduces the consumption of paper;
  • NO PLASTIC in the restaurant: we use only glass bottles and only eco-friendly materials for food preparation and tableware (glass, ceramic or stainless steel). We use Spunlace Napkins, which are recyclable and biodegradable.
  • we use fresh 0 Km food, local seasonal vegetables and many organic products.

Green Policy for our Guests

Our customers and guests are made aware of our sustainability policy and we encourage them to help us with sustainable practices:

    • Turning off the lights when leaving the room.
    • Turning off taps.
    • Leaving newspapers out of the bins so they can be collected separately by the housekeeping staff.
    • Towel and Linen Policy: to limit the environmental impact from the use of detergent and consumption of water, towels are changed on request and we kindly ask guests to put on the floor of the shower the towels they wish to be replaced.
